OUR STORY

The Mandoza Foundation was established to honor the legacy of one of South Africa's greatest musical legends, Mduduzi Edmund Tshabalala, known to the world as Mandoza.

Born in Zola, Soweto, Mandoza rose to fame through his pioneering contributions to Kwaito music, transcending cultural and social boundaries to unite South Africans through his powerful lyrics and infectious energy.

His life was a testament to resilience, creativity, and the transformative power of music. From humble beginnings to becoming a national icon, Mandoza’s journey inspired millions to believe in the possibility of a brighter future. His enduring message—“Nkalakatha”—called for unity, hope, and empowerment, values that remain at the heart of our foundation.

Initially focused on cancer awareness following Mandoza’s personal battle with the disease, the foundation has since evolved to focus on promoting arts, music, and drama in South Africa.

We believe the arts are a powerful vehicle for personal growth, education, and community development, and we are committed to creating opportunities for young South Africans to express themselves and reach their full potential.
